The First Refugee Home Based Child Care

Ali Hamud arrived in the United States in March of 2009 as a Somali refugee.  Ali, who spent most of life in a Kenyan refugee camp, became The New Investment, New Opportunities (NINO) Project’s first licensed refugee childcare provider on February 14th, 2012.  By providing services to local refugee families and taking care of 4 children, Ali is able to earn an income that helps his family stay self-sufficient.  Being the sole provider for his 5 person family, Ali became inspired when hearing about META’s NINO project. He has successfully completed all required hours of training, CPR/First Aid, home visits and house preparation for inspections and is committed to learning additional business skills to attract more customers in the future. Although he is young and has no previous work experience in the child care field, Mr. Hamud stays motivated and is looking forward to building upon the skills he has already learned.  Ali is committed to participating in on-going child related classes offered by the NINO project and other agencies in the Boise, Idaho area. He has become an excellent role model to those in his community seeking to participate in the NINO project and has taken it upon himself to mentor those just starting up their own businesses.   Amino Hamud, the mother of the children in Ali’s care stated that her children sleep and behave better as they are occupied during the day with the different types of toys and activities Ali was able to purchase with his sub-ward.   We congratulate Ali for a job well done!
