World Humanitarian Day

Today, August 19, the date of the suicide bombing of the UN office in Iraq in 2003, has been designated by the UN General Assembly as World Humanitarian Day in honor of those who have given their lives in service to others. Among the 22 people killed in the bombing in Baghdad were Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and a well-known advocate for refugees.  Some of you, if you've been around long enough will recall meetings with Sergio at InterAction in New York.
